The fabulous “Caitlyn Walsh”

Caitlyn is our newest Faculty Member at “The Arlington School of Music, A Div. of The Arlington Institute of Music & The Performing Arts”®. In 2022, Caitlyn was awarded the position of faculty head of the voice department at Arlington School of Music.

Due to the sterling reputation of Arlington Heights’ quintessential Conservatory of Music, , founded in 1936 in downtown Arlington Heights, IL, Caytlin has eagerly joined our Family as “Faculty Head of Vocal Studies and Performance Skills.” Nicknamed “The Screamer” by her parents when she was a baby, Caitlyn has been singing since before she can remember. Her grandfather, a professional jazz saxophonist from New York City, was her first and greatest influence. At a young age, she quickly started learning piano from her mother, who played and taught by ear. Caitlyn began formal training with flute lessons at age 10 and then went on to study saxophone, jazz saxophone, bassoon, and voice over the next several years.

Caitlyn primarily teaches beginner through advanced voice for all ages in all styles, including classical, musical theater, pop/rock, folk, and jazz. As a well-rounded instrumentalist and vocalist, she also teaches piano, flute, saxophone, and bassoon. She studied both bassoon and voice at Northwestern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music and Music Education with an emphasis in Arts Leadership and Community Engagement. She also recently completed her Master of Arts in Music and Music Education at Columbia University, with an emphasis in Vocal Pedagogy and Vocal Literature. Influential teachers include Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, Keven Keys, Allison Barilla, and Nick Falco.

She has served as the Choral Director at Rolling Meadows High School for over 10 years, where she oversees the vocal department and conducts a variety of choral ensembles, including the Treble Choir, Advanced Mixed Choir, Madrigal Singers, Acapella, and Show Choir. The choirs have performed extensively throughout the local community and are also on tour at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney World. The formerly competitive show choirs, “Leading Ladies” and “New Directions,” earned awards at numerous competitions and festivals in the greater Chicagoland area. Caitlyn has coached many singers over the years for performances in the annual Choral Cabaret and Music Honors Society Recitals.

Outside of music, Caitlyn is an experienced registered yoga instructor (ERYT-200) with classes at CorePower Yoga in downtown Arlington Heights and Synergy Fitness Studio in Des Plaines. She also teaches yoga and mindful movements as a PE class at Rolling Meadows High School, where she utilizes yoga and mindfulness as vehicles for students to achieve wellbeing.

As a music teacher, Caitlyn’s primary goal is to foster a love and appreciation of music and singing while teaching students how to build lifelong skills through social and emotional learning. In order to make singing more fun and meaningful for her students, Caitlyn believes in providing them with “choice and voice” in musical literature selection, style, and interpretation. She also utilizes her skills and experience as a yoga instructor in order to enhance her students’ understanding and application of posture and breath work to achieve healthy singing.
